The basic requirements for a search and rescue member are:
Cochrane Search and Rescue members are provided with many opportunities to take further training in different specialty areas.
SAR volunteers can be called out 24 hours a day in any weather. As an active member you should always be physically and mentally prepared to respond. Your attendance at a search is based on your own decision at the time of call-out. We understand that you may not always be available.
Initially most volunteers need to upgrade or purchase basic outdoor gear, such as boots, compass, backpacks, etc. This may cost up to $500.00. SAR volunteers are expected to have a means of transportation of their own, but car-pooling is normally available and encouraged for most training outings and searches.
To join Cochrane search and rescue, contact Tony Romano or one of the board members for more information or if you have any questions. CSAR holds monthly general meetings and training sessions and we welcome all new volunteers or interested individuals to come out and see what SAR is all about. Feel free to come and check us out.
